I do love this time of year. I always feel the leaving of summer before I’m ready for it, but once I’m here, living in September, there is a soothing-ness in the sharpened air and the lower dappling of light. It feels like a time to be savoured.
Moods shift & structure is reinstated, for a while.
Earlier dinners. Mornings in bed with the window still open, but now you feel it. Socks on the floor. Coffee. A jumper over pyjamas in the morning. A slight crunch from sole to ground. Soup. Muddy boots. Cosy Blankets Damp hair. Nora Ephron. Chestnuts turning up in pockets. High necks. Cold hands. Switching to red. The whiff of outside when someone comes inside. Evening candles. Baths. De-bobbling.
The small changes in balance & almost overnight, you reach for the things that make you feel warm again.
I love that.
You pull your sleeves over your hands. Stay out longer. Reach for another layer without really thinking about it.
Dursey, for the turn.
