At Castanea, we don’t believe clothing is disposable. We believe it holds memory. Cashmere, especially, asks for something slower.
A moment. A touch. Not maintenance, but connection.
Once a month, we invite you to create a small ritual with your knitwear. Put the kettle on. Open a window. Light a candle if you like. This is not a chore to rush through — it is care, and care is grounding.
Your cashmere has held your warmth. Now you hold it.
Why Ritual Care Matters
Cashmere is a natural fibre. It softens with love. It strengthens with gentleness. When cared for properly, it can last decades — and age beautifully.
Monthly care:
- Keeps fibres supple and strong.
- Prevents pilling from becoming wear.
- Preserves colour and shape.
- Deepens your relationship with what you own.
This is slow fashion in its truest sense.
The Castanea Cashmere Ritual
1. The Wash (Only When Needed)
Cashmere does not need frequent washing. Often, fresh air is enough.
When it does:
- Fill a basin with cool or lukewarm water
- Add a small amount of gentle woolite or cashmere wash
- Submerge and lightly press — never rub
- Soak for 10–15 minutes
- Rinse in cool water
Think of it as bathing something precious. Slow hands.
2. The Dry
- Gently press out excess water (never wring)
- Lay flat on a clean towel
- Reshape softly with your hands
- Leave to dry naturally, away from heat
Cashmere remembers the shape you give it.
3. The Brush & Breathe
Pilling is natural — it is not a flaw. It happens where life happens: under arms, at the sides, where we move.
- Use a cashmere comb or de-bobbler lightly
- Always comb in one direction
- Do this when the knit is dry
Open a window. Let the fibre breathe.
4. The Store
- Fold, don’t hang
- Keep in a breathable cotton bag
- Add natural cedar blocks or lavender to protect
Storage is not hiding away — it is resting.
Tips & Little Secrets
- Airing between wears reduces washing
- Steam (never press hard) to refresh
- Rotate your knits so fibres recover
- Never hang long-term — gravity stretches softness
The Energy of Care
You are built for connection — not consumption.
When you care for your knitwear intentionally, you:
- Reduce waste
- Extend the life of what you love
- Slow your nervous system
- Honour the land and fibre
Cashmere comes from earth and animal. It deserves reverence.
And so do you.
Warmest,
CASTANEA cashmere
