At Castanea we are aware of the daily struggles we are all going through. We are experiencing a rollercoaster of mixed emotions. Anxiety, denial however at the core we remain hopeful as we know our unsung heroes are out there doing their very best for us.
As you're spending so much time at home we suggest it's time to dig out your old cashmere jumpers and bring them back to some new life. Cashmere sweaters and jumpers are so comforting & if it's only for a short period that’s what we need right now. We though you would bring you our top 5 "Will Cashmere..." and we hope this will shed some more light on the most frequently asked questions we get here at Castanea & help you bring new life to your cashmeres.
1. Will Cashmere Shrink after washing?
Yes, it will, but only if washed improperly, heat is the main culprit, if cashmere clothing encounters any hot water, it will shrink significantly! Always hand wash your cashmere clothes in cold water with a mild detergent. Cashmere can also be dry cleaned but our personal favourite is a cold hand wash.
2. Will Cashmere keep me warm?
Yes. Oh my god yes. Cashmere is an amazing insulator, about three times as insulating as Sheep’s wool. However it does also depend on the ‘weight’ of the cashmere garment, heavier weights will be more appropriate for winter, while lighter weights can be used year around. Castanea offers up to 6ply (meaning 6 ends of yarn) cashmere for the winter months & 2ply for spring summer!
3. Will moths destroy my cashmere?
Moths are one of Cashmeres worst nightmares. These little critters love creating holes in your favourite cashmere clothes. They’re attracted to the protein in the cashmere fibers, as well as human oils! We recommend always keeping your cashmere washed and cleaned regularly & wrapped in tissue or breathable cotton bag in your wardrobe with some cedar balls.
4. Will cashmere stretch?
It shouldn’t, unless stored & washed improperly. To prevent stretching, Cashmere should never be hung & should be laid flat after washing & storing for the best longevity.
5. Will my cashmere fade?
Do not dry in direct sunlight as this will fade your beautiful sweater. Your cashmere should not fade otherwise and if it does, get a refund!
